Announcing the DReam to Index Scholarship

In 2018, colleagues of David K. Ream formed a group (The Friends of Dave Ream) in his memory, and since then the group has offered scholarship aid for new indexers to register for an indexing conference.

The scholarship is intended to assist newer indexers who have completed some type of formal index training (courses, apprenticeships, etc.). The award is not restricted geographically, and any indexer meeting the criteria is eligible.

In 2018 three new indexers received scholarships to attend the ASI conference in Cleveland, Ohio – a fitting tribute in David’s home town.

For the years 2019 and 2020 the scholarship funded two winners each year.

In 2021, conferences hosted by the various international Indexing Societies were cancelled due to the pandemic and scholarships were postponed until the following year.  Thus, in 2022 four scholarships were awarded.  For a full listing of scholarship recipients please see the Scholarship winners page.

As had always been the Friends’ intention, 2023 was the fifth and final disbursement of scholarship funding.*

Five 2023 winners have been announced. Congratulations go to:

Laura Abed, ASI
Jess Herdman, ISC/SCI
Anna Aridome, ASI
Jessica Dee Humphreys, ISC/SCI
Wendy Savage, ISC/SCI

The cut-off date for 2023 applications was April 1, 2023.

Friends of David Ream reserved the right to adjust the amount of scholarship funding to assure a zero balance and thus closure of the fund.
